Mikhail Anikushin used to head the sculpture creative workshop of the Russian Fine Arts Academy. Acting member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, one of the authors of the memorial To the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad , monuments to Pushkin in St Petersburg, Pyatigorsk, Kaliningrad, Vladivostok, Chisinau, Narva, Delhi, People's Artist of the USSR; Merited Artist of Russia; Hero of Socialist Labor; awarded with orders of Lenin, People's Friendship, Labor Red Banner, Great Patriotic War of the second degree; an honorary citizen of St Petersburg. Died 18th May 1977.
