A reproduction of an engraving made in 1780. Inscription "Petrovsky Theater in Moscow". Bolshoi Petrovsky Theater was decided to be built in 1776. A place was chosen on Petrovskaya street with the help of a well-known mechanic Michael Maddox. A public theater costing 130000 rubles was built in 5 months according to architect Christian Rosberg's project. Plays started to be shown in 1780. The theater was burned down during the Moscow fire of 1812.
