A monument to Komsomol [Young Communist League] members, defenders of Stalingrad, that was unveiled in downtown Volgograd in 1973 collapses due to strong winds and corrosion. Two copper three-meter [ten-foot] sculptures fell from the granite pedestal, while the third sculpture depicting a girl is still standing.
