

Russian organic chemist Alexander Nesmeyanov [1899-1980] was a member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. In 1939-1954, Nesmeyanov headed the Academy's Organic Chemistry Institute. In 1954-1980, Nesmeyanov headed the Academy's Institute of Element-Organic Compounds. In 1946-1948, Nesmeyanov was Academic Secretary of the Academy's Chemical Sciences Department. In 1948-1951, Nesmeyanov was President of Moscow State University. And, in 1951-1961, he served as President of the Soviet Academy of Sciences.
