Moisei Uritsky (1873-1918) joined the Russian revolutionary movement in the 1890s. In July 1917, became a member of the Central Committee of the Bolshevik party and in October a member of the Military-Revolutionary Party Center to conduct an uprising and direct the Petrograd Military Revolutionary Committee. In March 1918, was made chairman of the Petrograd Extraordinary Commission (Cheka). Was assassinated by a Socialist Revolutionary.
