Baltic Way event on August 23, 1989, on the day of the 50th anniversary of the Nonaggression Treaty between the USSR and Germany (the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact) residents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia made a human chain starting from Vilnius to Tallann, thus demonstrating their wish to secede from the USSR. The Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic, outside the city of Rapla.
