Great Patriotic War veteran Emilia Ivanchenko at her home in Kiev. At the age of 15, she volunteered for the front and defended Kiev together with the people's militia. She now heads an inter-state union for promoting friendship between hero-cities. Ms. Ivanchenko has also authored 12 books of poetry and prosaic stories. One of her books is titled "Near and Far."
