

Map "Tract from Moscow to St. Petersburg" St. Petersburg, Academy of Sciences, 1767. The tract passes almost through the entire map. Its construction was ordered by Peter the Great. It was built throughout the entire 18th century. The tract was called a "promising road" and was shown on maps as an absolutely straight line. The construction of a railway along this tract was launched in almost a hundred years -- in 1843.
