Stepanovs family. Vasily Stepanov (1908-1943). Vasily went to the front in the first days of the Great Patriotic War. He fought in near Kerch in Crimea in the 553rd artillery regiment. Once he was performing an important assignment in the enemy's rear. In 1942 he was taken prisoner but managed to flee. In November 1943 Vasily was taken prisoner again when performing a mission on behalf of the guerrilla unit "For Homeland". He was shot by Germans in Nikopol, Ukraine, in December 1943.
