Soviet cosmonaut Alexander Volkov and French cosmonaut Jean-Loup Chrétien during a spacewalk outside the Mir orbital space station at 12:57 pm on December 9, 1988. They had to assemble the French ERA experimental deployable structure on the conical section of Mir's transfer compartment. The experiment was known as ERA.
