Treblinka was the name of two Nazi death camps in Poland's Warsaw Province. About 10,000 people perished in Treblinka I (forced labor camp, 1941-1944) and about 800,000 people (mostly Jews) lost their lives in Treblinka II (extermination camp, 1942-1943). In August 1943 Nazis suppressed the uprising of inmates in Treblinka I(, after which the camp was eliminated. Treblinka I was dismantled in July 1944 prior to the arrival of Soviet troops. A symbolic memorial cemetery of the victims of Nazi terror was opened in Treblinka II in 1964.
