Witch's Hut, a wooden pavilion designed by Viktor Vasnetsov after Russian fairy tales, was built in the 1880s at Abramtsevo, an idyllic country estate north of Moscow, a few miles away from the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius, Russia's most worshipped shrine. It was the heart of the Slavophile movement and a major center of literary and artistic activity throughout the 19th century and in the early 20th. Now it is a museum-preserve of history and the arts.
