

Arctic pilot Mikhail Babushkin, Hero of the Soviet Union (1893-1938), took part in the search of Umberto Nobile's expedition in 1928 and of Sigizmund Levanevsky's missing plane in 1937-38, and delivered the research station North Pole 1 to a drifting icefield in 1937. He died in an air crash.
