Survivors of the Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster of April 26, 1986, were treated in Moscow's Clinical Hospital No. 6. Rescuer Starovoit, aged 27, took part in putting down the fire from its first instants. Apart from bad overall gamma exposure, he had radioactive burns of 34% of his skin. With moist burns and disastrous deficiency of white blood corpuscles, he was treated in an isolated room with antiseptic ventilation to rule out heteroinfection.
