A mountaineer ascending. The 50th anniversary of Soviet mountaineering. The Soviet mountaineering's date of birth is considered to be August 27, 1923, when 27 students of Tiflis University led by Associate Professor Georgy Nikoladze started ascending Mount Kazbek after a thorough training. Eighteen of them, including 5 girls, reached the top.
